Lesson 5 of 9 · 9 min
Close it properly: contract, scope, first invoice
A handshake is not a client. A signed one-pager and a paid first month is a client.
The one-page agreement
Your contract needs six things: the parties, the monthly fee and billing date, what's included (map it to the modules you'll actually run: campaigns, content, SEO, lead handling, monthly report), what's excluded (ad spend is the client's, paid to the platforms directly), the term (monthly rolling, 30 days' notice — confidence beats lock-ins at this stage), and ownership (work product belongs to the client; your systems and know-how remain yours).
Send it for e-signature rather than as an attachment that dies in an inbox — the ecosystem's signing flow gives you a signed, timestamped document without printing anything. Do not start work before signature and first payment. Ever. The clients who resist paperwork are the ones who resist invoices.
Money mechanics
Invoice monthly in advance, due on receipt, by bank transfer or card link. Ad budgets never touch your account: the client pays Meta and Google directly from their own billing, you operate the account. This keeps your cash clean, your liability small, and the relationship honest.
- → Draft your one-page agreement using the six-clause structure.
- → Decide your invoicing rhythm and payment method before the first yes.
